Burl wood doesn’t follow a pattern. It forms in response to stress, a wound, a change in conditions, something the tree had to work around, and the grain records all of it. The result is a density of figure and movement that straight-cut lumber simply doesn’t have.

No. 4 came from one of those growths. Hand-turned at Holland Bowl Mill from reclaimed hardwood sourced right here in Holland, Michigan, this nine-inch bowl follows the natural edge of the burl itself. The irregular rim, the natural character along the edge — none of it was corrected. That’s the point.

At nine inches in diameter, it works equally well as a display piece or in everyday use. Finished with Holland Bowl Mill’s Bee’s Oil: food-safe, long-lasting, and formulated to let the wood’s natural character speak for itself.

There is no second piece like this one. This bowl was turned from a specific section of a specific reclaimed tree. Once it’s claimed, it cannot be remade.
