Description
The bark edge on No. 6 is intact all the way around. That’s not common. Most live-edge pieces lose some of it during turning, but this bowl came through with the full perimeter preserved, rough and textured against the smooth walnut interior.
At the center, a small natural void sits where the wood opened up during formation. It was left as found. Together with the concentric grain rings that sweep across the interior, it gives the piece a quiet, almost geological quality, like looking at a cross-section of something that took a very long time to become what it is.
Hand-turned at Holland Bowl Mill from reclaimed hardwood sourced right here in Holland, Michigan, this twelve-inch bowl is substantial in both diameter and depth. At four inches at its highest point, it has a presence that holds a room.
Finished with Holland Bowl Mill’s Bee’s Oil, food-safe and long-lasting, applied to let the wood’s natural character speak for itself.
There is no second piece like this one. This bowl was turned from a specific section of a specific reclaimed tree. Once it’s claimed, it cannot be remade.
